Aftab Rahman, 46, Jailed for Stealing Tracksuit, Assaulting female shopper in Derby

Aftab Rahman, 46, of Derby stole a designer tracksuit from a city centre store then assaulted a female shopper as he tried to flee the scene at around 4pm on Saturday, November 17.

Aftab Rahman pushed the woman down the escalators at Intu Derby as he ran from security staff who were trying to catch him.


He put the Emporio Armani tracksuit into a bag at JD Sports,  a member of the public alerted the security staff about Rahman trying to conceal a tracksuit in a bag, Workers at the store tried to stop Rahman as he attempted to walk out of the store.


He 'panicked' after security staff tried to stop him leaving JD Sports and pushed a female shopper as he tried to flee the scene.


Rahman, admitted that his problem is his drugs habit and he is no stranger to custody “It is just very difficult to kick the drugs and these offences were committed so he could fund that habit.


He pleaded guilty to one count of theft and one count of assault when he appeared from custody at court.


Now he has been jailed for 20 weeks after admitting to stealing the tracksuit and assaulting the female shopper by pushing her down the escalator and ordered to to pay female shopper £100 compensation.
