Dr Shahid Masood arrested in PTV corruption case after IHC rejects bail plea

TV anchorperson and Pakistan Television (PTV) former chairman Dr Shahid Masood was arrested in a corruption case on Friday.



He appeared before the Islamabad High Court to get bail in Rs38 million PTV misappropriation case but the plea was turned down by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani.

Therefore, the television personality, who was earlier punished by the Supreme Court for spreading misinformation in the Zainab killing case, was apprehended outside the court by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Earlier, he was granted an interim bail by the high court till Nov 12 in the case. A special court of the FIA, in October, issued warrants for Masood after rejecting his pre-arrest bail plea.

Dr. Masood has been accused of signing an agreement with a fake company to negotiate PTV’s grant rights with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the coverage of matches played in Pakistan, causing loss to the national kitty.

During his last appearance in the high court on Oct 29, Masood has been accused of misbehaving with a journalist.

When he returned from the court, a journalist came forward to ask the TV anchor about his escape from the court, Masood lost his temper and allegedly snatched her mobile phone.

The mobile phone, however, was returned after lawyers present on the occasion intervened, he said. but footage was deleted by Shaid Masood.
