Rehman Afzal, 22, AKA ‘Biggy’ has been jailed for over 20 years for shooting a man and his nephew over a debt. “Biggy” had setup a meeting in Holly Road, Handsworth with the 24-year-old victim to discuss the money owed to him.

When the 24-year-old victim arrived at the location, Afzal of Whitehall Road, Handsworth took out his pistol and hit the victim over the head and stole his mobile phone then demanding money.

Afzal then made a call to the victims uncle and told him to come meet them at the location they were at.

When the victims uncle arrived at the scene, Afzal then started beating his nephew by hitting him with his gun.

After seeing his nephew beaten, he tried to reason with Afzal. He begged him to stop beating his nephew.

Afzal then pointed the pistol at them and shot them both in the leg.

After the shooting, Afzal fled the scene but the victims managed to call for help.

The police were informed of the incident which led to the arrest of Afzal at his home address a week later.

Birmingham Crown Court found him guilty possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear, two counts of wounding, robbery and possession of cannabis on 08.06.18 after a lengthy trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

Rehman Afzal was locked up for 21 years behind bars.

”This is a great result and reinforces that anyone with access to illegal firearms can expect to spend many years behind bars.”

Violent crimes have doubled in Birmingham since 2013.
