Woman, 35, Raped during surgery by Hospital Staff in Lahore

Woman, 35, resident of  Syedpur, Multan Road, Lahore allegedly raped during her surgery at a leading public health facility in Punjab’s capital city Lahore.



Woman had gone to the Services Hospital after feeling pain in her lower abdomen.



She was treated for an abscess near her uterus and was advised a surgery by the doctors.



She was admitted to the woman’s surgical ward-II on Nov 23 and taken to the operating theatre for surgery at 7:30am and was discharged the same day at 7pm.



She felt pain and started bleeding,  her sister took her to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Lahore, where she was told that she had been raped.



The woman has lodged a formal complaint with the Shadman Police. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the woman claims that she was raped by the doctors inside the operation theatre during an unusually longer surgery.

“I was admitted to the hospital for a surgery on November 24. When I regained consciousness from the anaesthesia that night, I realised I had been assaulted during the surgery. It was an 8-hour-long operation but they discharged me from the hospital the same day,” the woman told the police.

Police told media, a medical examination of the woman had been conducted and the samples sent to the forensic science agency. The test report would decide the course of investigation and determine whether the woman had been raped or not.

Punjab’s Health Minister Yasmeen Rashid has taken notice of the incident and formed a committee to probe the matter. Rashid said that if the suspects are found to be guilty then they would be taken to task as per the law.
