Zulfiqar Dad, 49, Jailed for 11 Years for setting fire to his own house in Halifax

Zulfiqar Dad, 49, started the blaze in the early hours of New Year's Day this year at the family home on Hanson Lane, Halifax.

His two young sons were inside house, who managed to escape unharmed.



Zulfiqar Dad  was convicted of arson with intent at Leeds Crown Court.



He was locked up for 11 years, and told he must serve seven years in custody. The remainder will be spent on licence.



Following the case, Detective Inspector Vicky Lawrance, of Calderdale CID, said: "Zulfiqar's actions in deliberately starting the fire in the early hours of the morning on New Year's Day could have easily caused the deaths of his two adult sons.



"Luckily no-one was seriously hurt but the consequences of his actions could have been much worse."
