Gang of 4 Jailed for supplying and production of Class A and B drugs in Derby

A gang of four who were arrested in the summer as part of an operation in the city to tackle the supply and production of Class A and B drugs have been jailed today.

The operation named ‘Operation Halifax’ began on June 12 and 70 warrants were carried out in Derby, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.

A total of 80 people were arrested and of these 35 men and 15 women were charged for a variety of drug offences.

Waqar Ashfaq, 21, of Darby Street, Derby, was sentenced to six years imprisonment for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Adil Ali, 18, of Crewe Street, Derby, sentenced to 28 months in jail for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Brian Dawson, 43, of Stockbrook Street, Derby, was sentenced to 15 months for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Tracey Powell, 37, of Mount Street, Derby, was sentenced to 16 months for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Superintendent Tracy Harrison said: “This operation was launched to help dismantle the supply and production predominantly of Synthetic Cannabinoids (Mamba) in Derby.

“The amount of people arrested and charged was outstanding. This is predominantly down to intelligence based policing and working with our partner agencies.

“These sentences show that this type of crime will not be tolerated in the city and highlights the good work taking place in Derby by our teams and has had an impact on wider violence and knife crime which is often linked to drugs.”
