Shahid Aziz, alias Gullu Butt, tried to shake Dr Qadri’s hands and hug him when the latter arrived at the court for the Model Town case hearing but the PAT leader did not exchange the same courteous gesture until security officials intervened and pulled Butt away.
Tahirul Qadri reciprocated without knowing him after Gullu Butt came up to him at the apex court and gave him a hug.
Shahid Aziz, alias Gullu Butt was charged in Model Town in 2014 case and sentenced to a prison term and released in 2017.
He was sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Oct 30, 2014 under five sections of laws and fined Rs100,000.
But, he was released from Kot Lakhpat jail in March last year after the LHC set aside his term under Section 7 of the ATA and Butt had completed his maximum imprisonment of two years under the PPC.
Meanwhile, the top court wrapped up the Model Town case and directed the Punjab government to constitute a new Joint Investigation Team (JIT).
The directive was made as a larger bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, resumed hearing of a suo motu case over the matter.
Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri also appeared before the court and presented arguments.
