Jessica's family told her 'Killer Gay Husband', To Rot In Hell, Before he was Jailed for 30 Years

Pharmacist Mitesh Patel choked his wife Jessica with a Tesco bag for life so he could cash in on a life insurance policy and move in with his 'soulmate 'Dr Amit Patel.

As he was jailed for a minimum of 30 years today, Ms Patel's younger sister, Divya, stared him in the face as he spoke in court. 'She will rest in heaven while you rot in hell'.

Jessica’s heartbroken families shared how her death has affected them.

There was a statement from Jessica’s grandmother, from her siblings and from her father.

Her devastated father said he feels like he’s let down his late wife, after promising to protect his daughters.

Reading a statement on behalf of Mrs Patel's sisters and cousins, her younger sister Divya told the court: "The one thing we hope and prayed for above anything else was that in her final moments she did not suffer.

"The cruel reality is that she did in fact suffer, she knew exactly who her killer was, and he mercilessly ignored her attempts to fight for her own life as he ended it.

"We can only imagine the fear and panic she must have felt knowing herself this was it. Thinking of that moment makes our hearts so heavy."

Sentencing Patel, Mr Justice Goss told him: "You have no remorse for your actions. Any pity you have is for yourself."

He told the defendant that Mrs Patel "clearly loved you and was a dutiful wife" of nine years, adding: "She wanted nothing more than to have children and live a normal family life.

The two-week trial at Teesside Crown Court heard Patel, who ran a pharmacy on Roman Road with his 34-year-old wife, had a series of affairs with men he met via the dating app Grindr.

Mitesh Patel, 37, showed no emotion as Mr Justice James Goss told him: 'You are a selfish man, business driven, wanting a very successful life and wishing to retire at 40.

'You were also wanting to commit to a life with another man on your own terms and you well knew that insurance policies would realise £2m on Jessica's death.'

He said that a 30 year minimum term was reserved for only cases where the seriousness of the offence is 'particularly severe.'  He added: 'This is such a case.'
