Rushaan Farrukh, 24, Died after a Fall from Building of Beaconhouse National University, Lahore

Rushaan Farukh was a student at (BNU) Beaconhouse National University in Lahore, she was studying at fifth semester in Visual Arts and Design Department of BNU. She suffered sever injuries after a fall from a multi-story building of University on November 26, 2018.

She was taken to Bahria Hospital where she was allegedly refused service because it was a case of “attempted” suicide at that time hence a police case, she was then taken to General Hospital where she is said to have undergone surgery but she could not survive.

What she wrote on her Instagram tells a lot about what she went through – How depression hits like a comet!

And so it was that started to get the feeling you get when you'are to leave a place forever.

It's the feeling of missing a feeling. I knew deep down that this is that last time I'll think about things (especially myself) in that certain way.

See that's what I'm scared of. Not the new, but the old. Being the person i was two year ago.

Because i know i can defeat her and hurt myself so bad. I'm sorry this i all i could manage in twenty years.

Rushaan’s friend who witnessed her falling from the building; Rushaan was dressed in a bright orange sweater and a pair of jeans.

She was looking very pretty; she was dangling her legs sitting there from the place she fell. Rushaan’s friend was shouting at her to not jump but all she did was to stare at her for a while and then finally decided to jump.

No investigation has been launched by the police as it is purely “a case of suicide”, according to the university administration.

This death serious questions on the performance of BNU management, who did not tend to the girl right after the fall – let alone providing her any first aid.

There are also people who claim to be from her family saying on social media that the death wasn’t a result of suicide but she had slipped.

Moreover, the behaviour of other students who ‘enjoyed’ watching her falling down and filming her on their cell phones, put the humanity to shame.

Her life could have been prevented if any one from the 3rd floor would have run to the 4th floor and tried to calm her down.

Sadly, like any other case, the girl’s death became a viral topic on the social media, where many expressed their heartfelt sympathy to the departed soul.

But, the question is that why compassion only arises when it has all been turned into dust.

Her class fellows remember her as a vibrant and experimental student and rule out any sign of depression. But what to say about those who took out their mobile phones to record her fall, while laughing at her, minutes before she reached the top floor on Monday.
