8 children injured after giant inflatable slide collapses in Woking

Eight children have suffered serious injuries after an inflatable slide collapsed at Woking Fireworks.

The children were rushed to major trauma centres in London following the horror incident at Woking Park, Surrey, tonight.



An eyewitness said people panicked as police escorted thousands from the park to make way for an air ambulance to land.

Police initially reported a Helter Skelter had collapsed but later corrected to say it was a giant inflatable slide.

"We are working with ambulance and emergency service colleagues.", officers confirmed in a statement.

A spokesperson said the emergency services are treating seven children for "potentially serious injuries".

The ambulance service were called at 7.30pm to reports of an inflatable structure collapsing.

An air ambulance is on the scene.

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service, said: "We currently have multiple crews on scene at a significant incident in Woking Park."

Eyewitnesses described seeing numerous emergency vehicles at the event, which around 12,000 people were due to attend.

We have declared a major incident following a number of people falling from an inflatable slide at the Woking Park fireworks display at around 7.30pm this evening.

A number of children fell from the slide and were injured. Eight children have been taken to hospital by South East Coast Ambulance Service with potentially serious injuries.

Surrey Police worked with the organisers of the event to evacuate the site, in order to allow the emergency services to do their work, and to allow the air ambulance to land.
