Pak Govt Removes NADRA ID Card (NICOP) Requirement for Overseas, Traveling to Pakistan

Update: Explanation Towards the Information Regarding the NADRA Card (NICOP) Abolished for Overseas The federal government has decided to abolish the condition of having a National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) for expatriates living abroad, who wish to travel to Pakistan.



The govt made decision on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 to abolish the condition of carrying National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) for expatriates visiting the country.



Now, overseas Pakistanis will not require any such document to travel to Pakistan without a visa.

The decision was made following the recommendation of Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari.

The spokesperson of Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis said that Prime Minister Imran Khan himself has approved the decision. “Now the overseas Pakistani can travel to Pakistan without visa,” he added.


Pakistani expatriates have long complained about the requirement of a NICOP many times, saying that it has been creating many problems for them.

NICOP is a registration document that is issued to an eligible Pakistani who lives abroad or has a reference there. Notably, any citizen can apply for the document so that they can travel to Pakistan without a visa, in case they hold dual nationality.


“The ministry takes lead in initiating and implementing prime minister’s 100-day reformative agenda to ensure quick redressal of issues pertaining to expatriates and their children by achieving almost all set targets,” said Bukhari.

Earlier, the government decided to undertake a couple of new initiatives to facilitate the overseas Pakistanis.

Saying, PM was fully aware of problems faced by the overseas Pakistanis in sending remittances and retaining their legal properties in Pakistan.
