A Pakistani-American couple has opened up a chai (tea) cafe in New York. They opened a new cafe in the very busy New York City with a traditional outlook and tea speciality.
The cafe aims to build bridges between the East and West. Moreover, 50% of the restaurants profit will be utilised to support women and children in Pakistan.
“The Chai Spot” not only sells delicious chai, but they also offer their customers products that are handmade by women from villages in Sindh and Balochistan.
Khalida belongs to a Pakistani family from a village in Balochistan and David belongs to an Italian-American family. As most of you can guess, a marriage between the two probably wasn’t a piece of cake. After facing many hurdles along the way, chai is what played a crucial role and essentially brought the two families together – making the marriage possible.
He whispered to me in my ear "I would follow you anywhere". Now as we prepare to move to NYC, I think about how much both of us have left behind for eachother and yet how much more we have received.
Khalida and David decided to launch an initiative that would help address global misunderstandings and promote peace.
